Another great article by Jon Coupal in the opinion section of the Inland Valley Bulletin, Sunday, Aug 7th edition. Jon Coupal is the President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association of California.
Regarding the "Taxpayer Protection & Government Accountability Act". It adds a requirement for voter approval of all tax increases, clearly defines the difference between a tax, a fee & an exempt charge and requires that any tax on the ballot must be clearly labeled as a tax vs. misleading language. It also mandates that any new tax imposed in 2022 or later must comply with this Act or be deemed invalid. What a great attempt to stop the "tax and spend" super majority in Sacramento. Too bad it didn't make the November ballot,
but we'll have to wait for voter approval in 2024.
